Expelled Congressman Santos says running for Congress against fellow GOPer who voted to oust him
Santos was expelled from the House in December 2023 for ethics violations
Expelled GOP Rep. George Santos says he's running for Congress again, against a fellow New York Republican who voted to oust him.
The disgraced politician made the announcement Thursday evening on X, the same night he attended President Biden' State of the Union address in House chambers.
Santos intends to run against Rep. Nick LaLota in New York’s 1st Congressional District.
It was unclear from his post whether he intends to make a late 2024 bid. New York's primaries are in early April, and whether Santos can still get on the ballot also is unclear.
After winning a House seat in 2020, the first-time politician was found to have fabricating much of the resume he presented during his successful campaign.
He also was indicted in October in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York on several federal charges, including wire and credit card fraud in connection with campaign contributions.
“New York hasn’t had a real conservative represent them since I left office arbitrarily, thanks to RINO, empty suits like @nicklalota. He is a willing to risk the future of our majority and the future of this country for his own political gain,” Santos also posted on X.
