House conservatives end floor standoff, several bills advance for vote

House Republicans are on the verge of passing highly anticipated legislation to preserve gas stove usage.

Drama in the U.S. House of Representatives concluded on Tuesday after conservatives in the chamber agreed to move forward with voting on multiple bills after shutting down the process last week.

Several GOP lawmakers in the House voted Tuesday to establish rules of debate needed to proceed to voting on five bills, including proposals to hinder regulations on firearm stabilizing braces and gas stoves. The final vote was 218-209.

The group unexpectedly decided to “hold the floor” last week by rejecting the procedural rule in an act of defiance towards House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's handling of debt ceiling negotiations with President Biden. This led to all votes being suspended for the week as McCarthy was forced to negotiate with the GOP lawmakers.
