Report: OPEC barring media access to oil industry meeting, won't answer why

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) will not allow the media organizations Reuters, The Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg to attend an upcoming oil conference, Reuters reported Wednesday.

The conference in question is reportedly a seminar taking place in July in Vienna, Austria, where top oil CEOs and OPEC+ energy ministers are set to attend. 

Reuters noted that OPEC+ meetings "can have a material impact on the price of oil and the global cost of energy." The alliance of countries is reportedly responsible for 40% of global oil supplies.

Continuing, Reuters stated that OPEC "declined to comment on why" it’s blocking the three media organizations from accessing the seminar. The same three were also shut out of a similar meeting earlier this month, the outlet added.

Other news organizations have been invited to attend the July seminar including the Financial Times and the trade publication Argus, which has confirmed that it had been invited and would attend.
