Republican senator calls on Energy secretary to resign during committee budget request hearing
"It is outrageous that you misled us. It is outrageous that you are continuing to mislead us. This has got to change. And, frankly, you should go,” Republican Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley said.
During a tense exchange during a Senate budget request hearing Tuesday, Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., called on Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm to resign.
The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee held a hearing to consider the Department of Energy’s 2025 budget request, Fox News reports. Hawley ripped into Granhom for violating federal law when she continued last year to own shares of individual companies after testifying that she did not own any.
"It is outrageous that you misled us. It is outrageous that you are continuing to mislead us. This has got to change. And, frankly, you should go,” Hawley said.
In an April 2023 hearing, Granholm had told Hawley that she did not own individual stocks, but she later discovered that she and her husband owned shares in Ford, which were sold the month after the hearing, according to a letter to the committee leadership in June.
