Climate activists in the UK receive prison sentences for destroying well known painting
The protesters reportedly are a part of the climate change activist group called Just Stop Oil.
Two climate change activists were sentenced to prison in a court Friday in London, England, for throwing soup on a well known painting during a protest against fossil fuels in 2022.
The painting, by artist Vincent Van Gogh, is called "Sunflowers," according to CNN.
The protesters reportedly are a part of the climate change activist group called Just Stop Oil.
The convicted protesters are Phoebe Plummer, 23, and Anna Holland, 22. One is getting 24 months in prison, the other is getting 20 months.
The painting is worth more than $84 million.
Undeterred by the sentences, three more of their fellow activists from Just Stop Oil threw soup on two other Van Gogh paintings of sunflowers at the same National Gallery where the 2022 vandalism occurred, just hours after the sentencing of Plummer and Holland.
