A cross-country winter storm crossed the Rocky Mountains and is set to impact the Eastern United States on one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.

The storm, which crossed the Pacific Northwest on Thanksgiving and crossed the Rocky Mountains on Friday, will enter the Midwest and South, dumping rain and snow as Americans finish up their Thanksgiving holidays.

Winter weather advisories have been issued in more than ten states across the Midwest that are expected to have the most snowfall. Parts of Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan will likely end up with more than 6 inches of snow over the next several days, CNN reported. 

In some areas, like parts of eastern Iowa, snow totals could exceed one foot, making travel nearly impossible. 

In the warmer South, heavy rains are expected instead of snow, bringing flooding risks that could further disrupt holiday weekend travel.
