Former NBA star Enes Kanter Freedom is reportedly mulling a career in politics and has expressed interest in a congressional bid, albeit not in the upcoming election cycle.

Speaking to Fox News digital, the former Boston Celtic said that "I want to run in a state where they cherish and cares about freedom the most, you know, and also where there is a lot of sunshine and beach."

"I will say it's a little too early for me to run because right now, unfortunately, our country is so divided. Once you get into politics, you lose 50% of the people. So when the time is right, I'm definitely thinking about it- maybe [20]26 or [20]28, more likely 28," he continued.

Born in Switzerland and raised in Turkey, Freedom obtained U.S. citizenship in 2021 and changed his last name to celebrate achieving that status.

A prominent critic of China, Freedom claims to have been shut out of the NBA due to his pointed remarks toward the Asian superpower.

He further told the outlet that education and censorship would rank among his top issues should he pursue his political ambitions.
