Florida Republican Rep. María Elvira Salazar on Wednesday introduced legislation to ban the term "Latinx" from executive branch documents.

"No official document of an executive agency (as such term is defined in section 551 of title 5, United States Code) that is intended for public use may contain the term ‘'latinx' or the term 'latin-x' (or any variation thereof)," reads the text of the "Reject Latinx Act."

"Latinx" is a gender-neutral rendering of the gendered terms "Latino" and "Latina," which respectively refer to male and female individuals of Hispanic origin. "Latino(s)" is also a catch-all term when referring to the demographic as a whole or a group including members of both sexes.

Salazar, for her part, believes the use of the term represents an effort to impose left-wing values on an entire culture group.

"The Biden Administration is waging a woke crusade on Latino identity and the Spanish language," she said. "We cannot allow the Biden Administration to use White House communications to attack our language and impose progressive ideology on our people."

"'Latinx' is a woke invention of the neo-Marxist left and as such should never be used to refer to someone of Latin American or Hispanic ancestry," she continued. "Far-left professors in universities introduced the term in 2004 with the sole purpose of infiltrating the Hispanic community with gender ideology. Despite the push by college campuses to use the word, the public continues to reject it."

She further cited polling data indicating that an overwhelmingly majority of Hispanics did not use the term.

The ban would apply to official documents from the myriad federal agencies under the jurisdiction of the executive branch as well as the White House itself.
