Former Acting DHS Secretary Wolf slams Senate border deal: 'not for the American people'

Former Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf slammed the Senate border deal on Tuesday, saying it's not for the American people.
"I think the conclusion is pretty clear, that this is not a bill for the American people, and that's why I'm not in support of it," Wolf said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show.
The bipartisan bill would mandate a border shutdown if illegal immigration reaches more than 5,000 over a five-day average. In December, the most recent month for which data is available, Customs and Border Protection reported more than 9,700 illegal immigrant encounters daily.

Senate Republicans will reportedly block a procedural motion this week to start debating the bill, which also contains over $60 billion in security assistance to Ukraine.
"If you look at the bill as a whole, there's a number of concerning features of the bill that at the end of the day, you have to say 'I can't support this. This is not what the American people need,'" Wolf said.
Wolf also criticized the size of the bill, arguing that the 270 pages discussing the border cannot be be read and understood in a short period of time.
