Former Speaker Gingrich urges Trump to use humor during debate with Biden
Trump and Biden will hold their first debate on CNN next Thursday.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich urges former President Donald Trump to use humor during the upcoming debate with President Joe Biden.
“My advice to Trump would be deal with Biden with humor, not anger, because Biden is pathetic," Gingrich said during a Fox News interview. "And as you know, I think he’s so dishonest that you can’t take him seriously."
Trump and Biden will be debating on CNN next Thursday.
Gingrich advised Trump to be calm during the debate and ask Biden questions about his son Hunter or something regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to The Hill.
“All Trump has to do is be calm,” he added. “Maybe ask Biden some questions like, ‘Did you really known Vladimir Putin when he was a lieutenant colonel in the KGB in East Germany?’ — which Biden claimed he did. Or, ‘Do you believe your uncle was eaten by cannibals?'”
Last week, CNN finalized its rules for the upcoming debate which will be hosted by Jake Tapper and Dana Bash.
“The problem for Biden is that he has a huge, uphill climb," he said. "The morning after this debate, Americans are going to go back to the grocery store. They’re going to be reminded of how expensive everything is."
The network said that neither candidate can consult with their campaign teams during the two commercial breaks. Also, they will only be provided with a pen, a notepad and a bottle of water, and will not be allowed to bring props or prepared notes.
