'God save the Queen'? Biden concludes gun control event speech with bizarre remark

President Joe Biden concluded a Friday speech at a gun control event by seemingly paying homage to the late British sovereign.

Biden appeared at the National Safety Communities Summit in West Hartford, Conn., according to the Daily Mail. The speech included numerous strange remarks, including a line involving a "dog-faced lying pony soldier" and a joke about him being 110 years old.

Most bizarrely, however, was his utterance of "God save the queen" before leaving the stage. The reference to the British sovereign appeared to have no immediate relevance to the subject at hand.

The phrase is also the title of the British national anthem, albeit solely when the monarch is female. At present, King Charles III sits on the throne and the song is rendered as "God Save the King."

Biden has previously made a similar comment to the "dog-faced lying pony soldier" remark, a phrase he attributes to a John Wayne movie, though it does not appear to feature in any of the actor's films.
