The Department of Justice and a pair of Republican attorneys general on Thursday announced sweeping fraud charges across several southern states involving more than $350 million in intended losses.

Assistant Attorney General Colin McDonald, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, and Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced charges on Thursday. Collectively, the charges spanned 17 cases and addressed alleged actions in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

The announcement comes as the federal anti-fraud task force under Vice President JD Vance has continued to investigate the misuse of public funds as part of a broader crackdown.

“Defeating the fraud epidemic in our country requires all-hands-on-deck from our federal and state partners nationwide,” McDonald said.

“Working alongside our federal and interstate partners, we are committed to combating fraud at every level," said Wilson.

“President Trump has challenged all of us to step up our efforts to fight fraud and protect American taxpayers from this grift,” Fitch added.
