North Carolina Republican Rep. Dan Bishop has clapped back against media claims he vowed to resign if California Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy becomes Speaker of the House.

Bishop posted a link to a Fox News article entitled "GOP holdout Dan Bishop says he will resign if bid to stop McCarthy fails," saying on Twitter that "This story is incorrect. I said nothing of the kind — I will serve my term with all the force and vigor in me."

The Fox article included comments Bishop made during an interview with Roll Call published on Thursday. The Fox article has since been updated to include Bishop's refutation.

In a comment on his tweet, Bishop included the transcript of his interview.

"'And I don't want anything and I don't need anything,' Bishop said," read the first line.

"I'm not old, at least I don't think I'm old, but I'm not going to stay up here for decades," he continued. "We're going to either see improvement up here in the same way we made remarkable improvements in North Carolina, in the state legislature, or I'm out."

Bishop is one of a handful of conservative House lawmakers attempting to either extract concessions from McCarthy or to outright block his ascent to the speaker's chair.
