Pop music icon Madonna was hospitalized over the weekend and is recovering from a "serious bacterial infection," her managed confirmed on Wednesday.

The sixty-four-year-old's hospitalization forced the postponement of her 40th anniversary tour, said manager Guy Oseary.

"On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which lead to a several day stay in the ICU," reads an Instagram post from O'Seary. "Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected."

"At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour," it continued. "We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new state date for the tour and for rescheduled shows."

The pop artist released her eponymous debut album in 1983 and has enjoyed commercial success throughout the decades.
