Former first lady Hillary Clinton on Thursday denied ever "encountering" Jeffrey Epstein during a closed-door deposition with the House Oversight Committee.

Clinton agreed to testify after previously ignoring a subpoena from the panel. The deposition is taking place in Chappaqua, N.Y. at a local performing arts center.

"As I stated in my sworn declaration on January 13, I had no idea about their criminal activities. I do not recall ever encountering Mr. Epstein," she said, in a prepared opening statement. "I never flew on his plane or visited his island, homes or offices. I have nothing to add on that."

The deposition is part of the Oversight Committee's probe into Epstein's associates. Former President Bill Clinton's ties to Epstein have long been public. Bill Clinton is not testifying on Thursday.

Mid-way through the deposition, proceedings paused after media provocateur Benny Johnson posted a photo of Clinton from the closed-door hearing. He credited Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., with the photo and later stated that it was taken before proceedings began.
