Hillary Clinton laments that voters don't 'really understand' midterm stakes

Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton lamented what she perceived to be voter ignorance of the consequences should the Republicans take power in the midterm elections.
"I think that with all of the noise that we've gotten in this election season, I don't think that people are really able to grasp that," she told MSNBC host Joy Reid when asked about the implications of a Republican Congress, per the New York Post. "But more importantly, I'm not sure they really understand the threats to their way of life."
Clinton spent much of her time focusing on comments from Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott, who has suggested that the GOP would attempt to cut Medicare and Social Security.
"Now, I don't understand why every American, not just people eligible for those two programs that they have paid into, that they have worked hard for, that they have earned, are not up in arms... We've got lots of problems right now in our country. We need sensible people to come together to try and solve them," she said.
She then pivoted to what has become a standard Democratic talking point, insisting that Republicans presented a "real threat to the heart of democracy."
"I didn't see a big outpouring on the part of elected officials to stand with Nancy Pelosi the way she has stood with Republicans as well as Democrats in times of real terror like on Jan. 6," Clinton continued, per the Post. "So ask yourselves, please, why would you entrust power to people who they themselves are unable to see how terrible it is that someone may be attacked in their home or don't really care because they somehow think it'll get them votes or get them elected?"
Clinton's comments refer to a recent home invasion at the Pelosi residence in San Francisco during which Paul Pelosi, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband, sustained a hammer strike to the head. Suspect David DePape, who was reportedly in the U.S. illegally, is in custody and faces charges of kidnapping, assault, and attempted kidnapping among others. Democrats have attempted to pin the blame for the affair on former President Donald Trump and Republicans.
Republicans are heavily favored to take control of the House of Representatives in November and have a significant chance of taking the Senate as well. Election forecaster 538 currently gives the GOP an 85% chance of winning the lower chamber and a 53% chance of winning the upper one.
