Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry vows to sign parental rights bills if elected governor
Last month, Louisiana Gov. Edwards vetoed a bill that would have banned gender-affirming care for minors.
Current Louisiana Attorney General and GOP gubernatorial candidate Jeff Landry vowed on Thursday to sign a parental rights bill that was recently vetoed by Democrat Gov. John Bel Edwards.
"I really don't understand why he vetoed a couple of the bills that he did," Landry told the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "But hey, we'll either override the veto, or when Louisianans elect me governor, I'll sign them."
Last month, Louisiana Gov. Edwards vetoed a bill that would have banned gender-affirming care for minors.
Landry did give Edwards some credit for signing a bill in June that restricts minors from accessing adult content in public libraries.
"We led a protection bill that basically ensured that books in libraries were placed in age appropriate places," Landry stated. "We were able to get that passed, and the governor signed it."
Landry says he believes the Louisiana state GOP will work to override the veto on the transgender bill.
"The governor also vetoed a pediatric transgender bill that I think is going to draw a lot of ears and have enough momentum to bring them into an override session," he stated.
