Graham Platner is projected to win the Maine Democratic primary for Senate on Tuesday evening.

The Associated Press called the race for person at 9:23 p.m., with 8% of precincts reporting. Platner will go on to the general election, which is expected to be competitive. Republican Sen. Susan Collins ran unopposed in her primary.

As of press time, Platner took 75.0% of the vote, to Gov. Janet Mills's, D-Maine, 18.7%. Mills suspended her campaign activities well before election day.

Platner ran as a progressive outsider candidate. During the campaign, he attracted national attention for a series of scandals, including extramarital texting and a Nazi "totenkopf" tattoo.
