Socialist candidate Angie Nixon was projected to win the Democratic nomination to run for Senate in Florida on Tuesday evening, setting up a match with Sen. Ashley Moody, R-Fla, in November.

The Associated Press called the race for Nixon at 8 p.m., at which time she led with 55.7% of the vote and 88% of the vote counted. Nixon recently joined the Democratic Socialists of America.

Nixon defeated Alex Vindman, who is primarily known for his role in the first impeachment of President Donald Trump. His brother, Eugene Vindman, won election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Virginia.
