Sen. Darline Graham was projected to win the South Carolina Republican primary runoff for Senate on Tuesday evening.

The Associated Press called the race for Graham at 9:01 p.m. Eastern, at which time she led with 52.3% of the vote to Rep. Ralph Norman's 47.7%.

After the unexpected death of Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., last month, Gov. Henry McMaster, R-S.C., appointed his sister, Darline Graham, to complete the remainder of his term. With the support of President Donald Trump, however, she quickly announced her bid for a full term.

The special primary drew in several South Carolina heavyweights, including Norman, former Rep. Mark Sanford, Rep. Russell Fry and Mark Lynch, who previously challenged Lindsey Graham in the original primary.

Norman finished third in the gubernatorial primary, but placed second behind Graham in the first round of the Senate primary. While Fry backed Graham, Lynch and Sanford broke for Norman.

Graham attracted national scrutiny over her debate performance in which she admitted to knowing little about foreign policy, her late brother's signature issue.
