The House on Tuesday approved a funding package to pass five of the remaining six appropriations bills and a continuing resolution for the sixth, heralding the end of a short-lived, partial government shutdown.

The 217 to 214 vote, followed the Senate's earlier approval of the package last week. The arrangement followed a Democratic demand for concessions on immigration enforcement following the death of Alex Pretti during a physical altercation with Border Patrol.

President Donald Trump previously weighed in and asked the lower chamber to approve the package without major changes, so as to minimize the shutdown's duration.
