President Joe Biden announced he would appoint to the Intelligence Advisory Board an MSNBC analyst who derided the story about his son, Hunter's, laptop as disinformation.

“The President’s Intelligence Advisory Board exists exclusively to assist the President by providing the President with an independent source of advice on the effectiveness with which the Intelligence Community is meeting the nation’s intelligence needs and the vigor and insight with which the community plans for the future," the White House wrote in a Friday statement announcing multiple appointments to the board.

MSNBC analyst Jeremy Bash, a former CIA chief of staff, signed a letter in 2020 suggesting that the story about Hunter's laptop was part of a Russian disinformation project, according to the Washington Examiner, which called Bash a "Hunter Biden laptop denier."

"It is for all these reasons that we write to say that the arrival on the US political scene of emails purportedly belonging to Vice President Biden’s son Hunter, much of it related to his time serving on the Board of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma, has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation," the letter read, Fox News reported.

“This looks like Russian intelligence. This walks like Russian intelligence. This talks like Russian intelligence,” Bash said on MSNBC in the leadup to the 2020 presidential election, per the Examiner. “This effort by Rudy Giuliani and the New York Post and Steve Bannon to cook up supposed dirt on Joe Biden looks like a classic Russian playbook disinformation campaign.”

The New York Post obtained Hunter Biden's laptop prior to the election and published an article including damaging information on the Bidens including emails found on the computer. While the story was widely derided by mainstream media outlets as part of a Russian disinformation campaign, it was later found to have indeed been Hunter's laptop and the materials on it to have been genuine.
