Indiana GOP Rep. Jackie Walorski dies in car crash
The congresswoman was reportedly in a vehicle with two staffers.
Indiana GOP Rep. Jackie Walorski died Wednesday in a car accident in her home state along with three other people, according to local news reports.
The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department reported that a vehicle "traveled left of center and collided head on with a southbound sports utility vehicle," which was carrying Walorski.
Walorski was in the car with her communications director Emma Thompson and district director Zachery Potts when they collided with another vehicle at about 12:30 p.m.
The driver of the other vehicle, who was driving alone, also was killed.
The sheriff's department said that the driver of Walorski's vehicle was taken to the hospital by ambulance in critical condition, but died in transit.
"Though we came from very different places politically, she was always prepared to work together where there was common ground," said Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. "My thoughts and prayers are with her family and the other victims of this terrible crash."
Walorski represented Indiana's Second Congressional District since 2012.
