House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Tuesday blamed House Speaker Mike Johnson for allegedly blocking a proposal to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies that President Donald Trump had supported.

Expanded ACA subsidies are set to expire at the end of the year, leading many to fear a sudden spike in the cost of their healthcare plans. Trump had expressed openness to a two-year extension, though conservative lawmakers bucked at the prospect.

“It even appears that the Trump administration was ready to put forth a plan that would at least have been worthy of consideration, and that Mike Johnson tanked it,” Jeffries said, according to Politico.

Republicans famously campaigned on repealing or defunding the ACA for numerous election cycles, before failing to pass a repeal during Trump's first term.
