Kari Lake racks up Senate endorsements from key lawmakers
The conservative firebrand is a close ally of former President Donald Trump and has received endorsements from his stalwarts.
Arizona Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake has added three big names to her list of supporters within the upper chamber.
Lake is expected to claim the Republican nomination and face Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego in November. Incumbent Sen. Krysten Sinema, who was elected as a Democrat but later left the party, has not announced her reelection plans.
The conservative firebrand is a close ally of former President Donald Trump and has received endorsements from his stalwarts, such as Ohio GOP Sen. J.D. Vance, who backed her earlier this week. More moderate members of the conference, as well, have begun to throw their support behind her candidacy.
Texas GOP Sen. John Cornyn, for instance, said "Joe Biden and Ruben Gallego have destroyed our economy, made our streets less safe, and failed to secure the border," according to The Hill. "Kari Lake will get our economy back on track and finish the border wall. I am proud to endorse her for Senate in Arizona."
Lake thanked Cornyn for his support Friday, saying on X that "I am thrilled to have the support and endorsement of Senator [John Cornyn]. He helped President Trump confirm conservative judges and cut taxes. I look forward to joining him in the Senate to fix our country."
Also endorsing her was Idaho GOP Sen. James Risch, who said "Joe Biden and Senate Democrats have made America less safe, secure, and prosperous. Arizona needs a Senator who will fight for the American Dream. I am PROUD to endorse Kari Lake for Senate in Arizona. She will fight to secure America's future."
"I could not be more humbled by the support of Senator [James Risch]," Lake stated. "He is a man of integrity who has stood up for American strength and freedom. I am looking forward to winning the Senate seat in Arizona so we can get to work for the American people."
Iowa GOP Sen. Joni Ernst, for her part endorsed Lake earlier in the week, saying "Arizona has been hit hard by Joe Biden’s border crisis and reckless spending that has led to high inflation... Arizona deserves a Senator who will fight to secure the border, lower prices, and restore safe streets in our communities. I know Kari Lake will do just that."
"I am grateful to have the endorsement of Senator [Joni Ernst]. She has fought to protect the American people and is a conservative champion. I look forward to working with her in the Senate to get America back on track," Lake said.
Lake previously secured the party nomination for governor in 2022, but lost to then-Democratic Secretary of State Katie Hobbs. She has since emerged as a fierce advocate for election integrity.
