Katie Hobbs vetoes transgender bathroom bill, refers to it as an 'attack' on children

Arizona Democrat Gov. Katie Hobbs vetoed a bill earlier this week that would have stopped transgender students in public schools from using a bathroom that didn't match their biological sex. 

Hobbs said in a letter to the Republican president of the state Senate that the bill "aims to attack and harm children."

“SB1040 is yet another discriminatory act against LGBTQ+ youth passed by the majority at the state legislature,” Hobbs' letter reads. 

Republicans control the majority in both the state House and Senate in Arizona. 

SB1040 would have required public schools to make accommodations for transgender students, according to The Hill.

Transgenderism has been part of a nationwide discussion with states having their own specific laws when it comes to sports and bathrooms for trans individuals.
