Left-wing intellectual Cornel West announces presidential bid
"Democracy creates disruption. It creates an eruption. It creates an interruption," he said.
Left-wing activist Cornel West announced on Monday that he would pursue a bid for the presidency in 2024 as a People's Party candidate.
"I am running for truth and justice as a presidential candidate for the People’s Party to reintroduce America to the best of itself - fighting to end poverty, mass incarceration, ending wars and ecological collapse, guaranteeing housing, health care, education and living wages for all!" West announced via Twitter.
"I enter in the quest for truth. I enter in the quest for justice and the presidency is just one vehicle to pursue that truth and justice, what I've been trying to do all of my life," he said in the accompanying video.

West pointed to abortion rights, standards of living, housing access, and healthcare as key issues motivating his decision to run.
"Democracy creates disruption. It creates an eruption. It creates an interruption," he said.
West previously served as a professor of the practice of public philosophy at Harvard University and is currently a Princeton University professor emeritus.
