Less than 1 in 5 young adults 'extremely proud' to be Americans: poll
Sixty-seven percent overall were either "extremely" or "very" proud in 2023. In 2004, that figure stood at 91%.
American patriotism among young adults has declined significantly in recent years, with a mere 18% of those aged 18-34 saying they are "extremely proud" to be American in a recent survey.
Patriotism on the whole remains near record lows, with 39% of U.S. adults saying they are "extremely proud" to be American in the latest Gallup survey. Last year marked a record low of 38%.

Age and partisan affiliation dramatically affect respondent attitudes on the country. Among U.S. adults aged 55 and over, extreme pride stood at 50% while those aged 35 to 54 expressed extreme pride at a 40% rate.
Republicans were the most patriotic, with 60% of party members expressing extreme pride. 29% of Democrats said the same, compared to 33% of independents.
The survey was conducted from June 1-22, questioned 1,013 American adults, and has a margin of error of +/- 4%.
