Liz Cheney rips Trump in opposition ad
"Donald Trump has proven he is unfit for office. Donald Trump is a risk America can never take again," she said.
Former Wyoming Republican Rep. Liz Cheney released a scathing ad this week opposing former President Donald Trump that heavily emphasizes the events of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
The one-minute ad features footage of the incident while Cheney narrates.
"Donald Trump is the only president in American history who has refused to guarantee the peaceful transfer of power," she says. "He lost the election and he knew it. He betrayed millions of Americans by telling them the election was stolen. He ignored the rulings of dozens of courts."
"Rather than accept his defeat, he mobilized a mob to come to Washington and march on the Capitol," she continues. "Then he watched on television while the mob attacked law enforcement, invaded the Capitol, and hunted the Vice President."
"He refused for three hours to tell the mob to leave. There has never been a greater dereliction of duty by any president," Cheney adds. "Trump was warned repeatedly that his plans for January 6th were illegal. He didn't care and today he celebrates those who attacked our Capitol."
"Donald Trump has proven he is unfit for office. Donald Trump is a risk America can never take again," she concludes.
The former Wyoming lawmaker was a leading Republican opponent of Trump in the wake of the incident. She then led a group of Republican defectors in voting for his impeachment during Trump's second trial.
House Republicans subsequently removed her from her leadership post and she ultimately lost her primary by a decisive margin to the Trump-endorsed Harriet Hageman in 2022.
While still in office, she served on the Democrat-dominated House Jan. 6 Committee, which the GOP largely derided as a partisan farce.
