The makers of an app designed to track the movements of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials are suing the Trump administration over its efforts to pressure the Apple app store to delist it.

ICEBlock founder Joshua Aaron argues that the Department of Justice violated its First Amendment rights by pressuring Apple to remove the app from the marketplace, The Hill reported.

The app relies on crowd-sourcing to locate ICE agents and is currently active for users who downloaded it prior to its delisting. 

"We are incredibly disappointed by Apple's actions. Capitulating to an authoritarian regime is never the right move," the company states. "Apple has claimed they received information from law enforcement that ICEBlock served to harm law enforcement officers. This is patently false."

The litigation comes as ICE faces local pushback in hotspot areas for immigration enforcement, notably in Chicago and Los Angeles.
