Mamdani urges Platner to drop out of Maine Senate race
The progressive oyster man decidedly defeated Gov. Janet Mills, D-Maine, in the party primary. He has until July 13 to step down so the state party may choose another candidate.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Tuesday said he believed Graham Platner should drop out of the Maine Senate race in the wake of a sexual assault allegation.
"I believe it's time for him to drop out of the race," he told reporters.
While mainstream Democrats have pounced on a sexual assault allegation that went public on Monday, Mamdani marks the most high-profile of the party's socialist wing to call for Platner to step aside.

He has not yet indicated his plans to step down, but said he would ponder "the best path foward" to defeat Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, in November.
