Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., on Sunday suggested that the government could end within days with the return of President Donald Trump to the United States.

“We knew this wasn’t going to end unless Donald Trump was back in the country. He’s now back in the country. He’s got to go ahead and put America first and sit down with us, deal with the health care shortage,” he said on CBS News.

Trump spent the past several days on a tour of Asia, meeting with the leaders of Japan, South Korea, and China.

Warner particularly pointed to ongoing legal proceedings over continued funding of the SNAP program, aka food stamps. A federal judge ordered that the administration use emergency funds to keep the benefits flowing.

“We’re still waiting to see whether the administration wants to appeal that,” he added. “Get the money out to people in need. Sit down with us, get this resolved this week, and let’s get everybody back to work.”
