House Speaker Mike Johnson on Friday indicated that he expected the House to approve a bill to increase security funding for lawmakers in the wake of Charlie Kirk's assassination.

Kirk was shot at an open-air event in Utah and succumbed to his injuries last week. In the aftermath, President Donald Trump has extended Secret Service protection to press secretary Karoline Leavitt and lawmakers appear eager to protect themselves as well.

Johnson forecast the likely October bill in a meeting with lawmakers, Politico reported.

The scale of the bill remains unclear. Funding is sure to prove a sticking point as the House also navigates the annual funding process in the coming weeks.
