House Speaker Mike Johnson on Monday confirmed to Republican lawmakers that he had met with Elon Musk in a bid to secure funding for the midterms, Politico reported, citing "two people who were in the room."

While Musk backed Republicans in key races since the 2024 presidential election, he has often feuded with lawmakers, especially during his stint as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Johnson did not outline whether he had committed to spending on behalf of House Republicans, though Musk has already created his America PAC as a vehicle to potentially do so.

The meeting comes as Republicans ramp up spending in competitive races. Roughly 9 weeks remain until the midterm elections and the House is expected to be a close contest.
