Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley on Wednesday expressed incredulity at reports of drag queen story hour events on military bases during a congressional hearing and vowed to get to the bottom of why such events occurred.

Milley requested copies of news articles that Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz cited during the hearing, saying "I'd like to take a look at those myself actually... and find out what actually is going on there."

"That's the first I'm hearing about that kind of stuff. I don't read those news stories, I don't know what you're talking about," he continued. "I'd like to take a look at those because I don't agree with those. I think those things shouldn't be happening."

The general's comments came after Gaetz questioned Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on numerous drag events held on military bases in recent months. The Republican lawmaker referenced numerous such activities, citing news articles that covered them.

Gaetz included four articles detailing drag events at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Nellis Air Force Base, and Ramstein Air Base.

Austin insisted that the DOD was not supporting the drag events.

"Drag shows are not something that the Department of Defense supports or funds," Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said. He declined to answer Gaetz's question as to why such events occurred on military bases.
