N.C. Sen. Budd endorses Trump for 2024
The North Carolina Republican secured his Senate seat during the 2022 midterms after Trump endorsed him.
Former President Donald Trump on Thursday scored another endorsement for his 2024 presidential bid when North Carolina Republican Sen. Ted Budd announced he would support his candidacy.
Budd backed the former president in a Tweet, saying "Hardworking, everyday families need a return of the America First agenda to restore prosperity and peace."
The North Carolina Republican secured his Senate seat during the 2022 midterms after Trump endorsed him in the Republican primary and held rallies in the Old North State to support him.
He replaced retiring Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., a prominent critic of Trump's.
Budd's endorsement follows news that South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott has formed a committee to explore a presidential bid of his own, suggesting primary candidates may fiercely compete for Senate support.
Trump, for his part, has racked up endorsements from GOP Sens. Tommy Tuberville, Ala.; Cindy Hyde Smith, Miss.; Markwayne Mullin, Okla.; Eric Schmitt, Mo.; Lindsey Graham, S.C.; and J.D. Vance, Ohio.; NBC News reported.
