New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency in response to major flooding in New York City brought on by heavy rains.
"I am declaring a State of Emergency across New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley due to the extreme rainfall we’re seeing throughout the region," the governor said Friday. "Please take steps to stay safe and remember to never attempt to travel on flooded roads."
"New Yorkers should expect heavy rain and flooding to continue throughout the night tonight," she added.
