"This bill will end the H-1B scam, ensure migrants NEVER become a public charge, and make America look like America again. FYI, net immigration immediately decreases by 85% under this bill," Ogles posted on X.

Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., on Thursday introduced legislation that would significantly overhaul the immigration system, curtail legal paths to entry, and keep immigrants off of public welfare.

Dubbed the "Assimilation Act," the legislation is the product of a partnership between Ogles and Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala.

"This bill will end the H-1B scam, ensure migrants NEVER become a public charge, and make America look like America again. FYI, net immigration immediately decreases by 85% under this bill," Ogles posted on X.

The H-1B visa program has faced scrutiny from immigration hawks for years over alleged pervasive fraud.

Ogles's legislation would also impose character tests, end chain migration and the diversity lottery, "gut" birthright citizenship, impose tougher asylum standards, tighten public charge rules, require English and civics proficiency for citizenship, and impose a 10-year residence requirement.

GOP Reps. Lauren Boebert, Colo.; Barry Moore, Ala.; Mary Miller, Ill.; Morgan Luttrell, Texas; Eli Crane, Ariz.; Keith Self, Texas; and Ralph Norman, S.C.; signed on as cosponsors.
