Republican voters strongly support leaving World Health Organization, Democrats strongly disagree
Among Independents, 31% favor the President Trump's plan while 53% are opposed
Republicans strongly approve of President Trump's decision to pull out of the World Health Organization, while Democrats disapprove, according to a new Just the News Daily Poll with Scott Rasmussen.
A fierce debate has emerged over the fate of the WHO in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the Trump administration alleging the United Nation's body did not do enough to stop the novel coronavirus' spread.
Just the News Daily Poll respondents were asked "Do you favor or oppose President Trump’s decision to pull the United States out of the World Health Organization?" They responded as below:
- 26% Strongly Favor
- 13% Somewhat Favor
- 9% Somewhat Oppose
- 41% Strongly Oppose
- 11% Not Sure
"The results have a decidedly partisan tilt to them," Rasmussen said. "Overall, 36% support the president’s decision to withdraw from the WHO, while 50% are opposed. Seventy-seven percent (77%) of Republicans agree, while 79% of Democrats do not. Among Independents, 31% favor the president’s plan while 53% are opposed."
On this topic, there is a notable gender gap, Rasmussen also pointed out. Men are evenly divided. Women, however, are opposed to withdrawing from the World Health Organization by a 21-point margin.
The national survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted July 9-11, 2020 by Rasmussen, a polling veteran. Margin of sampling error: +/- 2.8% for full sample.
