Voters unclear on whether Black Lives Matter message focuses on race, larger liberal issues, poll
'There is also a generation gap' - pollster Scott Rasmussen on polls results showing younger voters see BLM focus as social injustice
Nearly 60 percent of U.S. voters either don't think or know whether the Black Lives Matter organization focuses on a only racial injustice, or wider range of progressive issues, according to a new Just the News Daily Poll with Scott Rasmussen.
Rasmussen points out that the responses are fragmented along several voting blocs, saying, "There are expected partisan and ideological divisions."
Just the News Daily Poll respondents were asked "Is the Black Lives Matter organization concerned solely with matters of racial injustice or does the organization actively promote progressive policy positions on a wide range of issues having nothing to do with race?" They responded as below:
- 42% Solely with matters of racial injustice
- 38% Actively promote progressive policy positions on a wide range of issues
- 19% Not Sure
"There is also a generation gap," Rasmussen said. "Most voters under 45 believe BLM focuses only on racial injustice. By a wide margin, voters over 55 take the opposite view. To some degree, this may be the result of younger voters believing that a wide range of progressive issues are all related to racial injustice."
The national survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted July 23-25, 2020 by Rasmussen, a polling veteran. Margin of sampling error: +/- 2.8% for full sample.
