A study from Syracuse University found that only about 3.4% of American journalists identify as Republicans while 36% percent identify as Democrat.

The school reached that conclusion based on a 2022 study that surveyed 1,600 U.S. journalists online. It found the number of journalists identifying as Democrat had risen 8 points from the last survey in 2013.

The first time this kind of study was conducted was back in 1971when 35.5% of journalist respondents said they were Democrats, 25.7% said they were Republicans, and 32.5% said they were Independents, according to Mediaite.

Journalists who identify as Republicans have gone down significantly over the years whereas journalists who identify as Democrats have increased.

A Gallup poll taken in November shows that a good chunk of everyday Americans identify as Independents, while 29% would call themselves Republicans and 29% would call themselves Decmorats.

A separate poll conducted by Gallup shows that 58% of Democrats and 29% of Independents have a fair amount of trust in the media. Only 11% of Republicans answered that they trusted the media.
