President Trump's disapproval rating has reached a second-term high at 59%, according to a new poll by Fox News.

The national poll released Wednesday found that Trump’s overall job rating is at 41% approve and 59% disapprove. Former President Barack Obama’s job rating at this same point in his second term, in March 2014, was 40% approve to 53% disapprove.

Trump’s disapproval rating is the highest for either term. Just last month, his rating was 43% approve compared to 57% disapprove. A year ago, Trump’s rating was 49% approval to 51% disapproval.

Meanwhile, 42% of registered voters support the U.S. war with Iran, and 58% oppose it. The views on the war are very partisan, with 77% of Republicans supporting the military effort compared to 12% of Democrats and 28% of independents.

A total of 64% of voters disapprove of how Trump is handling Iran, an increase from 57% disapproval in January.

The U.S. military’s performance in the Iranian conflict was rated by 58% as excellent or good, compared to 41% who said only fair or poor.

Regarding how the military action is going in Iran, 47% of voters say the effort is going well, while 52% disagree.

Nearly a month into the war, only 13% believe it will conclude in a matter of weeks, while 37% expect it to last months, 15% anticipate a full year, and 35% think the end is more than a year away.

"Historically, foreign policy attitudes have been notoriously context dependent," said Republican Daron Shaw, who conducts Fox News polls with Democrat Chris Anderson. "Today, it seems many partisans rate the Iranian conflict based on their broader perceptions of Trump. Facts on the ground are interpreted to conform to partisan predispositions."

The survey was conducted March 20-23, under the direction of Beacon Research (D) and Shaw & Company Research (R). The poll took a sample of 1,001 registered voters randomly selected from a national voter file, with a margin of error of 3 percentage points.

Approval of Trump among Republicans has dropped to a second-term low of 84%, down from 92% last March, Meanwhile, an all-time high 16% of Republicans disapprove, the poll found.
