Two-thirds of Californians say they oppose Gov. Gavin Newsom's executive order banning the sale of gasoline-powered vehicles by 2035, according to a new poll by the Public Policy Institute of California.

The poll shows a strong shift in public attitudes toward the ban. In July 2021, 51% of Californians supported the ban on gas-powered vehicle sales, according to SF Gate. 

The new poll also found that 33% of Californians say they have seriously considered buying an EV for their next car purchase, a decrease from 41% who said the same in 2023, and only 12% say they already own one. 

The poll also found that 91% of Republicans oppose Newsom's ban on gas-powered car sales, 69% of independents, and 50% of Democrats.
