A group of prominent progressive lawmakers on Friday announced a bill to ban Flock cameras as backlash against the surveillance devices has swept through both parties.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., unveiled the text of the bill on Friday.

“We cannot allow America to become a surveillance state where a handful of AI oligarchs profit by giving the government the power to track our every movement," Sanders said, according to Politico.

The bill is unlikely to secure a vote until after the midterms, as lawmakers are set to head home to campaign. But it could conceivably draw bipartisan support, given Republicans have floated similar bills.
