Republican lawmakers are demanding answers from the National Archives and Records Administration over its handling and review of materials recovered from the Boston office of an attorney for President Joe Biden.

Nine boxes were recovered from attorney Patrick Moore's Boston office shortly after the discovery of the original batch of classified materials at the Penn Biden Center in Washington, last November. In March, acting Archivist Debra Wall indicated that NARA had not reviewed those materials.

Now, Republican Sens. Ron Johnson, Wis., and Chuck Grassley, Iowa, are demanding that NARA explain a statement from its general counsel, Gary Stern, whom the lawmakers say "revealed that, ‘while NARA has not yet reviewed the contents of the nine boxes, the FBI has,'" according to Fox News.

The pair seeks details as to the timing of the FBI review.

"If the FBI’s review occurred on or before your March 7 response to us, it is unclear why you did not disclose that information," they wrote. "It also remains unclear what steps, if any, NARA has taken to ensure that all records will be properly preserved before, during, and after the FBI’s review."

The pair demanded that Wall provide them with details of the FBI review, including what office sought access to the materials and the standard operating procedures NARA has in place for such a request.

They gave Wall an April 3 deadline to respond.
