Republicans demand Biden address nation over alleged UFO incursions

Lawmakers are demanding that President Joe Biden address the nation amid incursions into U.S. airspace by unidentified objects.

After a suspected Chinese spy balloon traveled across the United States before being downed by the military off the coast of the Carolinas, the Pentagon has since announced the shootdowns of three other aerial objects. Two are believed to be smaller balloons that were shot down over Alaska and Canada. The third was gunned down over Lake Huron and its nature remains unknown.

While the Pentagon has declared that the objects are "not a threat," lawmakers remain dissatisfied with the administration's disclosures to the public.

Arkansas Republican Sen. Tom Cotton on Monday said "[t]he president owes the American people an explanation, direct and on camera, of what we know about these 'objects' and what steps he's taking to protect America's sovereign airspace," according to The Hill.

Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio echoed that sentiment.

"In its 65 year history [NORAD] never shot down an aircraft over U.S. airspace - Over the 10 days they have shot down 1 balloon & 3 'objects' - Americans need to hear directly about this from their President today," he tweeted.

Biden has not committed to any public response, though Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin gave a press conference on Monday to assure the public that the objects pose no threat.
