Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, is reportedly considering a bid to lead the House Armed Services Committee after the midterms.

“If I do it, I’m going to do it regardless of any other factors,” he said, according to Politico. “It’s not going to be related to anything else that’s going on or anybody else that’s running.”

“It should be the right person for the job, and if I feel like I’m the right person for the job, then I’ll put my name in the hat," he added.

At present, Reps. Rob Wittman, R-Va., and Trent Kelly, R-Miss., have mounted bids for the slot. Wittman's position, however, may be tenuous in light of a recent redistricting vote in the state that might see his district redrawn entirely.

The Armed Services Committee is likely to be at the forefront of key budget disputes amid the ongoing Iran war.

Jackson previously served as the White House physician while President Barack Obama was in office and during President Donald Trump's first term.
