Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., is calling on Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to resign amid revelations that he maintained closer ties to the late Jeffrey Epstein than were previously public.

"Secretary Howard Lutnick lied to the country about his ties to Epstein. Now we learned that they were in business together. He has no business being our Commerce Secretary. He should resign," he posted on X.

Lutnick and Epstein were neighbors in New York decades ago. A recent dump of Epstein-related documents by the Department of Justice, however, revealed that Lutnick planned a visit to Epstein's island years later, Politico reported.

Lutnick has indicated no plans to resign, and a spokesperson told USA Today that ""Secretary Lutnick had limited interactions with Mr. Epstein in the presence of his wife and has never been accused of wrongdoing,"
