Senate to confirm 48 Trump nominees next week

The move comes as Republicans have grown frustrated with Democrats refusing to allow confirmation by voice vote or unanimous consent for non-controversial nominees.

Senate Republicans plan to confirm a total of 48 Trump nominees next week through a rule change as part of their effort to circumvent Democrats, who have stonewalled confirmations.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has eyed a rule change to allow lower-tier nominees to be confirmed in batches, rather than individually.

The 48 include a number of ambassadorships, including Kimberley Guilfoyle, whom Trump tapped to serve as ambassador to Greece, Punchbowl News reported.

The move comes as Republicans have grown frustrated with Democrats refusing to allow confirmation by voice vote or unanimous consent for non-controversial nominees.

President Donald Trump previously urged the Senate to formally recess during August to allow him to make recess appointments, though the leadership opted to hold pro-forma sessions that prevented such a move.
