Senate Dems want Hegseth to end Mark Kelly investigation
Last month, Kelly participated in the video, alongside Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., Rep. Chris Deluzio, D-Pa., Rep. Maggie Goodlander, D-N.H., Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, D-Pa., and Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo.
Senate Democrats on the Armed Services Committee this week expressed concern over the Department of War's investigation into Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., over his participation in a video urging military servicemembers to ignore "illegal" orders from the president.
“The theory that a sitting Member of Congress should be subject to disciplinary action entirely unrelated to their service, particularly for simply restating the law as articulated in the UCMJ... sets an incredibly dangerous precedent,” the lawmakers wrote to Navy Secretary John Phelan, according to The Hill.
Last month, Kelly participated in the video, alongside Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., Rep. Chris Deluzio, D-Pa., Rep. Maggie Goodlander, D-N.H., Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, D-Pa., and Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo.
"You can refuse illegal orders," they said. "You must refuse illegal orders."
"This administration is pitting our uniformed military and intelligence community professionals against American citizens," they said. "Like us, you swore an oath."
Hegseth quickly ordered the Navy to investigate Kelly's conduct.
